WHAT IS A DBS CHECK?
All charities have a responsibility to ensure that those who act on their behalf are suitable and competent to fulfil the role they have been given. This is particularly important in areas where a person is working with children or vulnerable adults. This kind of work is called “regulated activity” and it requires legal checks for the individual performing them. One component of that is a ‘Disclosure and Barring Service’ or DBS check.
There are four levels of DBS checks that are available and each will provide a DBS certificate for an individual. The four levels each have their own eligibility criteria and it is important to make sure that you request the correct check.
