Good safeguarding requires us as churches and faith based charities to recognise and manage risk.
As churches, we all recognise the importance of investing in public liability or governance insurance to protect our ministries if accidents or serious issues arise. Please Note: Membership payments are free of charge via our website on the registration page here and using our annual renewal option. Unfortunately, for those wishing to pay by way of an invoice (which has to be raised manually) we make a £24 charge to cover our administration costs .
Getting in touch with us
Our experience has shown that running a fully staffed telephone line is neither cost‑effective nor the best way to meet the needs of most of our customers.
We will, of course, continue to speak with you by phone when needed — we understand how important it is to talk to a real person when you have a safeguarding concern. However, our first point of contact will now be through a dedicated online contact form, where you can explain your query in more detail, or via our automated voicemail on 0116 218 4420 if you prefer.
We aim to respond within three working days, though in practice we are usually in touch much sooner.
If your matter is urgent and your church is a Gold member, you can use our priority phone line. This number is available once you sign in to the website and click on the Priority Helpline icon.
Charges for Specialist Consultation Advice & Support
We know our customers value specialist advice and support when a safeguarding issue arises. In order to provide consistent, high quality advice, it is necessary for us to make a charge for this consultation service.
*Consultation is provided in 15 minute blocks and can be for as long as a customer requires. Each 15 minute block is charged at £30. For gold members the 20% discount will apply.
(Most straightforward safeguarding issues require approximately 15 minutes of advice )
Gold members receive 45 minutes per year free of charge. This can be used in 3×15 minute blocks.
If your account has lapsed or is not up to date, you will be charged at the “normal rates” excluding your gold discount
Silver members receive 15 minutes of (DBS only) advice free of charge. Consultation minutes are not included in the DBS package. Consultation blocks can be booked on line here, with a prepayment facility.
Non Members of CSS
Non-member organisations are very welcome to book a consultation, however there will be an additional surcharge of £30 for each consultation session.
Changes to Organisational Learning Reviews
At the present time, CSS will no longer be undertaking formal ‘learning reviews’ which lead to a written report and recommendations. This is to enable us to conduct a review of this area of the service.
In the interim period, we are developing an advisory service to assist those customers who are dealing with a serious (sub-threshold) safeguarding issue. This service does not seek to replace a formal learning review but rather provides specialist advice to trustees and leaders at an early stage to assist them to make critical decisions. This will be a bespoke service with actions agreed upon following an intial “scoping” consultation session.
