September 2024: Changes to our membership packages and services

Stay updated with the latest news from Christian Safeguarding Services

More information to come via our newsletter in July, if you are not signed up to receive our newsletter, you can do this at the bottom of this page.

As Christian Safeguarding Services migrates to full operation as a charitable body we are reviewing all of your services.

We are making important changes in the following areas:

✦ Changing our membership packages to two tiers, a Gold comprehensive package and a Silver DBS package.

Changing how you contact us and we contact you.

Changing how we provide advice and consultancy, both free and chargeable

Good safeguarding requires us to recognise and manage risk.

As churches we understand the importance of investing in public liability insurance. Similarly, our membership packages are designed to allow members to invest in safeguarding and equip them to recognise and manage risk

You will be aware that our membership prices have remained static since 2018. We are therefore revising the costs of our membership packges in line with  the “cost of living” price index from 1st September 2024, and will be implemented on a rolling basis as your membership comes up for renewal.

Revising our membership prices is essential to enable us to invest in improvements to our safeguarding services, our website and training packages.

We have revised our packages in the light of experience and your needs as customers. We will now provide just two tiers of membership, a basic DBS service, and a comprehensive safeguarding service which the majority of our members seek.

Both membership packages will include free access to a range of resources on our website and some free consultancy advice.

Silver – the Complete DBS Service

Full access to the DBS portal

Full access to our DBS self help resources

Access to standard resources on our website including policy framework, audit tool and competency framework.

Access to our standard training courses at normal rates.

Access to 15 minutes of DBS consultation each year free of charge.

Access to specialist consultation/advice at normal rates.

Gold The Complete Professional Service

What’s included in the comprehensive Gold package?

Full access to the DBS portal

Full access to our DBS self help resources

Full access to premium resources on our website

including policy templates

20% discount off all our standard training courses only

Access to 45 minutes of specialist consultation and advice each year free of charge

20% discount off any additional specialist

consultation/advice fees.

Our experience has shown us that providing a staffed telephone line is neither cost effective, nor does it meet the needs of most customers.

We will continue to respond by telephone as we know how important speaking with a ‘real person’ is when you have a safeguarding concern. However, our initial point of contact will be via a dedicated on line contact box (allowing your query to be explained in more detail) or via an automated voicemail on 0116 218 4420 should you prefer.

We will respond to you within 3 working days, although in practice we anticipate we will be in touch much sooner than that. If the matter is urgent, we will aim to respond within the working day on which you have contacted us.

Charges for Specialist Consultation

Advice and Support

We know our customers value specialist advice and support when a safeguarding issue arises. In order to provide consistent, high quality advice, it is necessary for us to make a charge for this consultation service.

Consultation is provided in 15 minute blocks and can be for as long as a customer requires. Each 15 minute block is charged at £25 plus VAT. (Most straightforward safeguarding issues require approximately 15 minutes of advice)

❗️Gold members receive 45 minutes per year free of charge.

❗️Silver members receive 15 minutes of (DBS only) advice free of charge.

Consultation blocks can be booked on line here, with a prepayment facility.

A non-member organisation can also book a consultation, however there will be an additional surcharge of £25 plus VAT for each consultation session.

  • I was given excellent, friendly service. Even though it was a weekend when I contacted CSS, I was able to speak to someone the same day, and the advice was helpful, practical and specific to our needs

  • Thanks Paul and Sue - A very useful session. I was pleasantly surprised at the clarity structure and huge content of the course, careful to concentrate on the matter in hand and not be distracted by peripheral issues. Super ability to take and give answers to questions on the fly. Crystallising many things I have thought but not known for sure. Helping me be sure about the difference between safeguarding concern, allegation, whistleblowing and complaint. and the different ways to work out about a threshold having been crossed or not and then what to do. Excellent.” Church Leader

    - Church Leader on Responding Well to Allegations Course -
  • Effective, diligent, knowledgable and adaptable

    - Samaritans Purse UK -
  • “ CSS are tipping the whole thing upside down, who have upped the game so far as service to churches is concerned, we wonder what we have been doing for so long without this. We look back and think, why weren’t we told this before because we could have done so much better in the past.”

    - Manchester Church -
  • You are so professional, personable and approachable.
